How to Protect Your Hair This Summer

Now is the time to ditch the tight ponytails and go for natural, beach-style hair. Even though summer is fun, the sun, surf, and grass can make your hair look bad. You should take care of your hair now, before the hot weather completely destroys it.

Here are some summer hair care and style tips to make sure your hair stays in great shape so it fits the summer vibe. That’s like undoing the damage done by the wind, water, and sun this summer. Three things that are great for hair!

What Does Summer Do to Our Hair?

It’s fun to be outside in the summer! There are, however, some small problems that can ruin even the best summer hair. These are the things that we love most about summer: sunscreen, water, and wind.

Having fun in the sun is great, but also getting too much of that sun is bad for your hair and face. UV rays can dry out your hair and make it look like straw: dry, brittle, and easy to break. Also, sunburns on the head that make the skin itch, flake, and be a painful memory!

And along with the sunny, warm weather comes heat, another terrible thing about summer. It’s been said that humidity can keep skin wet and make it look younger, but it can also make your hair do anything but smooth. When hair is damaged or dry, weather makes those annoying frizz halos worse.

How to Take Care of Your Hair in the Summer

During the summer, days can be spent outside without any worries, enjoying the nice weather. The sun, sea, and sand can really make our strands feel down in the summer. This doesn’t have to be the season of bad hair days, though.

That’s why it’s so important to take care of your hair in a healthy way this summer! To keep your hair from frizzing out this summer, do the following:

1: Put On A UV Shield

The sun is annoying because it can change the color of our hair, giving us highlights or white locks. This can also hurt our hair. Every day, use a UV hair care treatment or product to protect your hair. These items make a shield that keeps your hair from getting brassy or damaged by the sun. They can also help color-treated hair stay colored.

2: Put a sunscreen on your hair

It’s easy to forget to protect your head from the sun, but a bad sunburn can quickly make you remember. Use a liquid or powder sunscreen on your hair to protect your head from UV rays and keep your hair healthy and wet.

3: Get rid of frizz

Because of the high heat, hair gets frizzier in the summer, even though it is dull and damaged. Use a hair product to keep your hair from breaking and to tame the frizz. UV protectants often do two things at once: they smooth out hair and get rid of frizz.

4: Get rid of the chemical buildup

Ever think about why blonde hair goes green after being in the pool for too long? When you swim in chlorinated water, your hair can get a green film that can be dry. If you want to go to the pool, don’t wash your hair. The natural oils in your hair will be stripped away, which will leave you vulnerable while you’re jumping off the diving board.

5: Wash your hair after going swimming

You can also lose the natural oils in your hair when you swim in chlorinated pool water or too much salt water. This makes each hair strand weaker and makes your head even more itchy. As soon as you get out of the pool, rinse your hair with water and wash it with a natural shampoo.

6: Put your hair up

This is more than just a fun addition to your beach-boho look this summer. Wearing a cute hat with a wide brim, a scarf, or even an umbrella will protect your hair from direct UV rays and keep your ears and head from getting burned.

Helpful hint: Some hat brands will even give you a UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) score that shows how well the hat will protect you from the sun.

7: Keep your hair cut

Split ends in your hair usually start to show up in the summer. To keep your hair from getting split ends, you should get it cut often. Broken hair isn’t as able to handle the sun and heat as well as healthy hair.

8: Let the hot tools cool down

The sun is already too hot for your hair. Only use hot tools on your hair a few times a week, and blow dry it three to four times a week, if that. Sleep with your hair covered up or clipped up to keep it styled longer without having to heat it up.
