JULY 22 MT. RUSHMORE NBA 2K COVERS No more are the days of dual NBA-licensed video games. Now, NBA2K holds the crown as the undisputed basketball video game and is the only one to exist for the next generation of prospects holding the sticks.
The San Antonio Spurs social media team recently played a game with their NBA Summer League roster. The Spurs prospects picked their Mt. Rushmore of NBA 2K covers. Watch the video here.
JULY 20 SILVER STARS FORGOTTEN? The WNBA is staring down a revolution, as high-profile rookies Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark take the W by storm. The increased viewership, and profits, have allowed the WNBA to start expanding into new markets.
Recently, Reese was asked what cities would be good hosts for new teams, and her answers were limited to Houston and Miami. She seems to have forgotten that San Antonio, home to one of the most successful NBA teams, also had a WNBA team. Before they were the Las Vegas Aces, they played in San Antonio as the Stars and Silver Stars.
The Stars lost the 2008 WNBA Finals to the Detroit Shock and relocated in 2018. JULY 19 WEMBY VS. KD. None of this is Wemby's fault directly, of course, but ... Well, follow along here. Kevin Durant is an NBA superstar, and really, that has been the case since he became a pro in 2007. He is also a long-time featured Nike guy, who has been with that brand since his rookie year.
But now, the Warriors ex seems to be involving himself in a beef with the shoe company. On Friday, Durant made a cryptic post to his Instagram story, writing, "@nike tell me, Am I a bad person?????" We will all work on the assumption that KD is not a "bad person.'' So what is he griping about? What is he alluding to?
A good guess, via Complex Sneaker: "Kevin Durant has taken to his IG stories with a question for the Swoosh ... "This morning, Nike released a new campaign for the Olympics featuring some of the brand's biggest stars, including the likes of LeBron James, Giannis, and Wemby (enormous basketball names signed to Nike), but the spot didn't include Durant.
Could that be was Durant is asking questions about?" Umm ... yes. That probably nails it. He is coming off a fine year during which he averaged 27.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.2 blocks per game. But to Nike? Compared to some of the other fellas ... maybe it wasn't "fine'' enough.''
